WHITE

We say white is pure. We say it is simple. We say it is devoid of malice. Yet is the same pigment that speaks a complex language in multiple cultures.

The simple to visualize, complex to create nature makes it a much sought after base and background colour. As naturally it blends into  it is ' all colours' at the same time. this identity as a colour that can 'escape colour' makes white very special. if white is not simply a colour, mightn't we be able to understand it as functioning like a design or expressive concept the background, it has the strength to stand its own when needed. After all an entire minimalist movement was inspired from this colour. Women in south India make ephemeral designs on the thresholds of theirhouses in honour of goddess Laxmi. In Iran they paint boats, in Greece they paint houses, in Japan they use egg shells to create shades of white. Egyptian paints use white in its potraits and outlines of characters.
